(Straw hat crew)
One piece is an anime with 20 years on air (animated (manga wise well 25)). It is being currently on air still today and is wrote by the mangaka Eichiro Oda. This art piece is one of the best exponent in the matter of friendship and posses quite more than couple of moments that put you in the edge with feelings. It is my duty to warm you that from this point it will be spoilers if you never has watched the series at all.
From the same chapter 1 and 2 we see an interesting crew of pirates (yes the whole idea of one piece is about pirates and a treasure but who cares about it) is drinking in a bar (this is a kids comic I sure) and suddenly a group attack them. However, they do not care about this and even laugh from it. This changes when this same group took the main character of the anime at that time a boy and want to harm it. Well let say that this boy was the friend from this crew and he was rescue by the crew. This action bring to the point the first time example with this crew saving his friend when they do not defend themselves when they were ridiculed by this group. Well this action was carried beyond this since from it the main character took the idea of going to the see, have an adventure and unite a group of friends as a crew to conquer and become the king of the pirates. Besides of the external results of the action and that the character that rescue the main character loss his entire arm it is a very cool friendship act. (from now on we will refer to the main character as Luffy or straw hat ).

This is a very early example but the whole entire series is full of them to be honest friendship is one of the main subjects of the entire anime itself. However, there are a couple of exalting points where this get a new meaning. An example of this is the whole series of chapter that is called the Arlong Park saga. Well let put us in situation, the navigator of the ship Nami (orange hair in the picture) stole all the money from Luffy and gent back to her island to deliver this to a crew of sharks that have invade it. At the first moment just like you have think we see her action as betrayal, however, it does not took to long to find out that is not the case. She stole all that money to pay the boss of the sharks (whose name is Arlong) to protect her island and that he do not kill anyone else.
**Stop there anyone else. Yes he has kill a bunch of citizens when he occupied the city and one of them is Nami stepmother.
The reason why Nami did this payment to Arlong is that he has sure if she make 2 billions of bellies (the currency in the show), the island will be free from him forever. However, like you can image this was not true he just want to use her and her extraordinary abilities to cartography for create an advantage to him and his crew. So, at some point in this series of chapter he stole her money and say that she have to start from 0 and that make our main character upset who end up beating up the entire crew and destroying a building alongside just for her well being. The reason why even she betray them technically he still do this is because he knows that she was hiding a true that was not know for him or his crew. So, he free up his friend and as a plus the island from the tyranny.

We live the Arlong Park and rescue Nami. Now we go to couple of thousand of chapters not because there is not any examples before if not because it may take a little bit longer that couple of post to put all the samples in play. Anyway I will mention a couple here from those chapters I will skip. We have the island of drum where the crew grows with Chopper the doctor whose life was really hard, however, his kingdom was full of bad people that need to be defeat. Also, this is read in some ways such as he need to be rescued from this people. Few chapters after that the island of Alabasta was in war because a bad guy theft the rain and the crew allied ask for help in free up that government. Finally, but not least we have skypea the sky island where the bell was located. The thing with this bell is that is part of the ancestry history from one of the main allies at the moment whose ancestor was treated as a bad person and a theft when the bell was not find. So, ring that bell carry more feeling than almost anything else since it meant that it was not a lied just the bell was in the sky. With this quick summary from what we skip over we are ready to talk about the series of chapter whose respond to the name of Ennies Lobby.
Ok why Enies Lobby and not the other examples I just mentioned above. The only reason why is this series of chapter was when from my perspective the concept of friends takes another level. Let us put in situation Nico Robin a member of the crew and the historian of it has been hunt down for the government since she basically born. The reason for it she can read staff that the government did not want to be read. At some point of her life (childhood) her entire island was burned down by the government because all of them was able to read this. (Ok until today's date it is unknown the reason why they do that). Well she got to escape from the government and leave the crew where she was and made them to be kill by the government. However, with the straw hat crew the staff was quite different since she likes them. So, for this she choose turn her down before they attack the crew and kill them for her fault. So, she did it and the government put her into a trail with a jury (a fake one because not matter what she will be guilty since the jury was composed by prisoners' whose will be in jail until their dead and so for they want to take everyone with them (believe me if I write about this anime government I will have enough for an entire blog )).
With this situation and she denying the crew that she want to live or belong to the crew itself she goes to this island. (this island where she goes is not any random one, it is the judges island where the justice palace was over. Also, this is one of the three places connected by an special door (guess how is called drums the justice door). So entering this Island is quite a deal). However, despite of Robin advice about leaving her die and do not go after her to try free her up the captain and his entire crew (photo at the middle when I start to talk about this) goes and invade the island. Declare the war to the entire freaking world by burning the government flag and give Robin a new choice that she has get given before To live.
However, this action just start the war and means the first real action that Luffy and his crew did against the global order and its government. This is a huge example of really valuable friendship since he put her friend first than his life or being in war with the government (composed by 170 island, fours seas, and more). The only lost in this chapter series that the crew experiences was their ship. I have to clarified that it was not in a great shape before and probably will be lost anyway. However, you may think that is just a ship. Well just to say you are wrong since that ship was also their friends and it is shown in a chapter specially for its dead.
With an full emotions chapter the captain and the crew says good bye to their long term friend. However, as you can image their trip did not finish there and they move on with Robin finally saved from the government.
I sure this is the last post from this Serie. Well going back we have declared war and have our ship destroy but rescue our friend. Well we got a new ship went to somewhere else and rescue more island from a tyranny. Now skipping again over at least 100 chapters (we should be now on 420) we go the sabaody arc or chapter series. This arc goes with some emotional touches to the crew since in that island we find a very similar building that was certain similar to one in the beginning. Yes he find a building looking like Arlong park (yes the sharks). This building is called the sabaody park in which slaves from different races get sold to the best payer. One of the most attractive kinds of slaves are the shark species specially mermaids. Well guess what one of the allies at the moment was a mermaid that get take by slave trade and will be sold in that building. For the first time ever do, they try to rescue her without using the force. It do not work out. The reason for it is that in that specific days was a member of the royalty of the world present. As you can guess he has enough money to beat any other offer for this mermaid. However, he do more than this which make Luffy extremely mad. He attack a fisher man (shark) that was in the straw hat side of the story and he laugh from it. Also, he claim that they are dumb a that he has a free slave.
As you can see in the image above it does end as good as this member of the royalty though of. However, this is the thing attacking of this members of the royalty is indeed a war declaration to the marines (let say the police) and they will send one of its stronger members to the island in case something like this happen. Luffy know this when he punch him, however, he did not care about the side effects he cares about his friend being mistreated. Actually do to all of this he and his crew gets defeat and be force to train for two years to be at the level of this kind of characters.
The crew get defeated, the marines show that they have more power and strength than the straw hat pirates. Luffy and his crew were force to train in separate locations. However, in the mean time happens what I think is the best second friendship example of the whole Serie and which one will be my last one. I am talking about the war, the greatest and fittest war that this whole anime has presented so far. Let put some context to this. Luffy brother Ace (in reality is more like his best friend) get trapped by the marines and will be executed for being a pirate and being the only son of the only pirate king so far (said that this men whose name is Roger is the only men in the one piece world that has accomplish to visit every single island on the world, which is not easy). Luffy learns about his execution through the newspaper and he without even doubt it decide to invade the prison where his brother was contained and free him up. I do not have to said that in prison the guards and the people where far beyond luffy's power at the moment. (also this prison belong to the second of the three special places that I have mentioned before). He went interrupt, almost get kill, but he make his way down to the cell where his brother was, however, a little bit late for that. Ace by the time Luffy where in front of the cell has been take it to the main base of the marines (yes you guess right the third especial place).
Let say this in easy wording, the marines was ready for a invasion of the strongest world on the earth at that moment. So, as you can imagine the people that where part of that war were not weak. Despite Luffy know that he cannot do anything to win the war or really fight on the same terms that most of the individuals there he went. The only reason why was his brother. He invade a place where we will be defeated and maybe got kill in the meantime but he does not care about it. This is the best moment of the whole entire anime and the only reason why was this and much more bur that you will not understand fully unless you have watched. At the end after Luffy finally frees up his brother he ends up to be kill. This was a high loss for Luffy but also a touch of reality that he needs to find out that he was weak.
Luffy defeated both emotionally and in body have to take an approach for train and become stronger as a need. He actually did and come back two years after to take his dream to the end. Here we are today he still in the way of accomplish it but has not change even a bit. Recently he invade the territory of one of the strongest pirates of the world to rescue Sanji a member of the crew. However, this is an story for another day an another blog. I think I have make the point clear One piece is one of the perfect examples about what means to be friends The rest like the Serie said will continue until Luffy finally ends his journey.
